Pakistani Authorities Remove DIG Traffic in Karachi
Pir Muhammad Shah has been removed from his position as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic in Karachi after failing to manage traffic effectively during and following the Gul Plaza fire. The incident claimed 79 lives.
A notification by the Sindh Police announced that Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh will take over as the new DIG Traffic, succeeding Shah.
Reports indicate that Shah’s inadequate handling of traffic management post-Gul Plaza led to severe congestion around the area, obstructing emergency services including the fire brigade. This hindered their ability to reach the scene promptly and effectively.
