PDMA Issues ‘Above Normal’ Monsoon Alert for Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert predicting increased rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season. The monsoon is set to begin in Punjab on July 1st, with expectations of 35 percent more rainfall than usual.

Rainfall Predictions for July:

  • First Week: 15 to 50mm
  • Second Week: 25 to 35 percent more rainfall than normal
  • Third Week: 15 to 25mm in South and Upper Punjab
  • Fourth Week: 50 to 70mm

Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected across upper, central, and southern Punjab. The PDMA has cautioned that the rain spells in July could lead to urban flooding and flooding in hill torrents in southern Punjab.

Precautionary Measures:

  • The alert has been disseminated to concerned departments.
  • District authorities have been advised to ensure necessary precautionary measures are in place before the rains begin.
