PM Shehbaz Sharif Reiterates Commitment to Human Rights on International Human Rights Day

Marking International Human Rights Day on December 10, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to upholding universal human rights, aligning with this year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.”

Reflecting on the day’s significance, PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s legislative strides to protect vulnerable populations, including women, children, minorities, senior citizens, transgender persons, and individuals with disabilities. He emphasized the importance of institutions like the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), National Commission on the Status of Women, and National Commission on the Rights of the Child, which uphold fundamental rights as enshrined in Articles 8-28 of the Constitution.

The prime minister celebrated the NCHR’s 2024 A-Status accreditation by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, calling it a testament to Pakistan’s strengthened efforts in promoting human rights globally.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also drew attention to global crises, urging the international community to act against Israel’s aggression in Palestine and to address the ongoing human rights violations in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for Palestinians and Kashmiris in their struggle for self-determination.

He urged citizens, NGOs, media, and global partners to collaborate in fostering a more inclusive and equitable society where every individual’s rights are respected and protected.
