Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) alerts for intense heatwave from June 7-12
The PMD warns of high-pressure system in upper atmosphere causing temperatures above normal levels.
Extreme temperatures expected to range between 48°C and 51°C in some Sindh and Balochistan districts.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, maximum temperatures may rise to between 41-46°C from June 8-11.
Chitral, Dir, Swat, Gilgit-Baltistan will see temperatures ranging between 37-40°C from June 8-10.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh and Muzaffarabad could experience 5-7°C above normal with temperatures reaching between 41-44°C from June 8-10.
Punjab regions forecast mercury levels to climb to between 44-48°C in Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Joharabad, Khushab, Mianwali, Noor Pur Thal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Layyah and Kot Addu from June 8-11.
Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo-Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Sibbi, Turbat and Panjgur are expected to see 4-6°C above normal with temperatures rising between 48-51°C from June 7-12.
Karachi will also experience very hot weather with maximum temperatures likely to range between 40-43°C from June 8-12.
Dust storms may occur at isolated places in southern Punjab and Sindh during the forecast period due to intense heating.
The PMD urges public, particularly children, women, and senior citizens, to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm.
Farmers advised to plan activities according to prevailing weather conditions and protect livestock from heat stress.
Met Office cautions about increased electricity demand and consumption during the period, urging judicious use of water in all aspects of life.
