Police detained former JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, his wife, and several others on Saturday during a pro-Gaza protest at Express Chowk in Islamabad. As the group gathered to express solidarity with Gaza, police warned them to disperse.
When the protesters refused to leave, a large police contingent, including prisoner vans and female officers, arrived at the scene. The demonstrators were forcibly taken into police custody and transported to nearby stations.
To prevent the protest from escalating, authorities also placed containers on the roads to block further advancement of protesters. The police cited the enforcement of Section 144, which prohibits any group or party from holding public protests, as the basis for their actions.
