President Zardari Honors Workers, Reinforces Labour Rights Commitment on May Day

President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to Pakistan’s workers on International Labour Day, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting labor rights. In his message, he highlighted the historic struggle of workers who demanded fair wages and reasonable working hours, underscoring the principle of human dignity.

The president emphasized that the Constitution of 1973 guarantees protection against exploitation, stressing the state’s obligation to eliminate all forms of exploitation and uphold equitable economic principles. He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s labor force, noting their dedication across various sectors.

Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to international labor standards, including fair wages, social protection, elimination of forced and child labor, non-discrimination, and adherence to International Labour Organization conventions. He highlighted the significant contributions of overseas Pakistanis to the economy through remittances.

The president stressed that ensuring safe working conditions, equal opportunities, and adequate wages remained a national priority. He called for investment in human capital, increased participation of women in the workforce, and creation of employment avenues for youth. Zardari urged all stakeholders to work together towards an economy based on fairness, dignity, and opportunity, stating that protecting workers is essential for sustainable national progress.
