Princess Sofia Named in Epstein Files; Royal Links Revealed

Last month, powerful figures from around the globe were named by the US Department of Justice in documents revealing connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Among those implicated is Princess Sofia of Sweden, who directly faced his influence unlike her peers.

Unlike Britain’s former Prince Andrew and Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, whose royal titles were stripped away for their ties with Epstein, Princess Sofia chose a different path. She attended the Ctrl + Rights Youth Summit in Stockholm, an event focused on children’s internet safety and digital rights. During her remarks, she addressed concerns surrounding Epstein head-on.

“I met him in a few social contexts,” Princess Sofia said. “Fortunately, it was just that.” She explained her continued involvement with Epstein to be strictly limited to such gatherings, not allowing for deeper connections. Her statement provided insight into the balance of power and privilege intertwined with Epstein’s network.

“When I read about the terrible crimes he committed against young women today,” she emphasized, “I am grateful that I had no further contact with him afterwards.” Princess Sofia expressed deep sympathy for all victims while advocating for justice in their favor.

In stark contrast to the fallout from Andrew’s expulsion and Mette-Marit’s apology last week, Princess Sofia chose openness over punishment. Her defense highlighted her sincere intent not to engage with Epstein beyond superficial encounters. This stance underscores how different spheres of influence react to revelations about Epstein’s past activities.

Her remarks also reflected broader societal debates on legacy and accountability in royal circles. Unlike Prince Andrew who lost his titles and residence at Royal Lodge, Princess Sofia’s situation offers a nuanced look into how the monarchy continues to navigate modern issues while maintaining its historical significance.
