PTA Simplifies VPN Registration for Organisations and Freelancers

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a streamlined process for registering virtual private networks (VPNs), catering to organisations and freelancers. This initiative aims to enhance secure online communications and data protection in an increasingly digital environment.

Organisations and freelancers can now register their VPNs directly through the PTA’s official website. This move is particularly beneficial for members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), enabling them to meet regulatory requirements efficiently while maintaining operational productivity.

Applicants must fill out an online form with basic details, including their identity card number, company registration information, and taxpayer status. For freelancers, additional verification is required to confirm their association with specific projects or companies.

The PTA stated that this measure aims to ensure only legitimate users gain access to VPN services, promoting a more secure registration system.

Requirements

Applicants are required to provide their IP address for VPN connectivity. Those needing a fixed IP address can obtain one from their respective internet service provider (ISP). The PTA has also allocated a specific category for freelancers using VPNs for commercial purposes.

To complete the process, freelancers must submit evidence from their employer or project to substantiate their claims.
