PTI Leaders Declared Proclaimed Offenders in Court Warrants

In a significant move that has sent shockwaves through Pakistan’s political landscape, a local court in Islamabad issued perpetual arrest warrants on prominent PTI leaders Ali Amin Gandapur and Omar Ayub. These orders were made following their failure to appear before the Bara Kahu police station despite repeated summonses for two unrelated cases stemming from alleged violations during the “Haqeeqi Azadi March” protest march.

The hearing was presided over by Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti, who noted Gandapur and Ayub’s persistent absences in court. This led to the issuance of arrest warrants as both were declared proclaimed offenders for their repeated non-compliance with legal mandates. The court further emphasized that if they did not voluntarily return to face charges within a set timeframe, it would be deemed an act of defiance.

Both Gandapur and Ayub are accused in two separate cases related to alleged misconduct during the PTI-led march held in November 2022. This protest was organized in response to the ouster of Imran Khan’s government by then-prime minister Sherry Rehman. The court received notification that all co-accused, including PTI founder Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, had been acquitted in these proceedings.

While the arrest warrants were issued for Ali Amin Gandapur and Omar Ayub specifically, their absences have sent ripples through Pakistan’s political scene. The move underscores ongoing tensions within the PTI leadership and questions its commitment to legal processes. As investigations into the “Haqeeqi Azadi March” continue, these arrests could mark a pivotal moment in determining whether the party will adhere to judicial rulings or face further scrutiny.

In light of this development, many political analysts are speculating on how this might affect PTI’s standing and its relations with various stakeholders within Pakistan. As further proceedings are adjourned until the arrest of the accused, it remains uncertain when justice will be served for these high-profile individuals who have evaded court appearances thus far.
