Punjab Govt to Provide Free Solar Panels Under Roshan Gharana Program

The Punjab Government has approved the Chief Minister Roshan Gharana Programme, which will provide solar home solutions to protected consumers using up to 100 units of electricity across the province. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced this initiative during the 13th Provincial Cabinet meeting, promising relief from high electricity bills within the next two months.

The Cabinet also endorsed the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” project, offering Rs 1.5 million for constructing homes on plots up to 5 Marla in urban and 10 Marla in rural areas. To ease financial pressure, the scheme will not require monthly instalments for the first three months.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the introduction of electric buses in Lahore, with 27 buses expected by December. A model of the electric bus was presented during the meeting.

Plans were also greenlit for the creation of the Punjab Grid Company to supply electricity directly to industries and the provision of affordable power to Industrial Parks via direct transmission lines from Bhiki, Balloki, and Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park.

Further approvals include amendments to the Registration Act 1908 for revenue services to overseas Pakistanis in eight countries, including China and the USA. The Cabinet also approved the Punjab Government’s Advertisement Policy and a feasibility study for a Tourist Glass Train from Rawalpindi to Murree, inspired by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s vision for tourism development.
