Sha’ban Moon Sighted in Pakistan, First Sha’ban on January 31

The moon marking the beginning of Sha’ban 1446 Hijri has been sighted in Pakistan, with January 31 set as the first day of the Islamic month.

A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, was held in Islamabad to verify the sighting. Members of zonal committees and relevant officials were also present.

Following the meeting, Maulana Azad confirmed that credible testimonies had been received, officially declaring the start of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar, which precedes the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims worldwide observe Shab-e-Barat on the 15th night of Sha’ban. Also known as Laylat al-Bara’ah, the night holds spiritual significance for many, with prayers and observances marking the occasion.
