Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated on Saturday his government’s commitment to progress and development across all four provinces during the opening session of the budget debate in the National Assembly.

Responding to Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Shehbaz acknowledged citizens’ rightful claim over provincial resources. He highlighted that Balochistan received a significant share increase under the 2010 National Finance Commission Award, with approximately Rs73 billion allocated for agricultural solarization two years ago.

Shehbaz defended federal funding exceeding Rs300 billion for the Gwadar-Chaman dual carriageway and justified the Durand Line fencing as a security measure. He also praised security forces making “unparalleled sacrifices” against terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PM Shehbaz reiterated his offer of dialogue to resolve outstanding issues, while Achakzai called for stronger support for the poor, agriculture, education, and tourism during the budget discussion. Lawmakers proposed a 30% salary increase, expanding the tax net, and an AI fund in the budget. The National Assembly reconvenes Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
