Sindh’s political landscape ignites as Feb 8 elections draw near

As the countdown to polling day on February 8 begins, Sindh becomes the epicenter of political fervor, with major players and alliances ramping up their campaign efforts across Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and beyond.

Key figures including Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Bashir Memon, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, and the Grand Democratic Alliance are leading spirited rallies, rallying voters to pledge their support. Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, returning from campaigns in other provinces, now focuses on Sindh, where his party has held sway for the past 15 years, joined by his sister Aseefa Bhutto in various cities.

Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of MQM Pakistan, supported by central leadership including Syed Mustafa Kamal and Dr. Farooq Sattar, presents a manifesto centered on urban development, aiming to address long-standing neglect in Sindh’s urban areas.

Jamaat-e-Islami, a vocal participant in Sindh politics, holds public gatherings with leaders such as Central Emir Sirajul Haq and Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, while PML-N’s Bashir Memon vies for victory in Matiari, backed by allies JUI-F, GDA, and MQM Pakistan.

The Grand Democratic Alliance, under Pir Pagara’s leadership, locks horns with the Pakistan People’s Party in various districts. Notable contests include Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashid challenging PPP’s Sayed Fazul Shah Jillani in Khairpur, and former CM Sindh Ghous Ali Shah taking on Dr. Nafisa Shah in NA-202 Khairpur.

In Sanghar district, GDA’s Muhammad Khan Junejo faces off against PPP’s Shazia Atta Marri on NA-209, while Saira Bano Wassan of GDA competes with PPP’s Sallahuddin Junejo on NA-210, setting the stage for a fiercely contested electoral battle.
