South Punjab’s Jamun Harvest Goes Wasted Despite Abundant Fruit Yield

Thousands of jamun trees across South Punjab yield abundant fruits each summer. However, a significant portion of this harvest never reaches consumers and instead goes to waste.

Jamun, despite its nutritional and medicinal benefits, remains one of the region’s most overlooked fruits, according to orchard owner Muhammad Sadaqat from Multan and Khanewal areas, as well as villages around Nawabpur.

Sadaqat noted that while much of the fruit is consumed at home or shared with relatives, the remaining portion perishes due to lack of a local market for jamun.
