Russian drone strike kills three in southeastern Ukraine

A Russian drone strike on Sunday killed three people at a bus stop in southeastern Ukraine, according to official reports. The attack occurred as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted leaders of Ukraine, France and Germany for talks on ongoing support for Kyiv.

Ukraine’s General Staff reported that a separate drone strike damaged a storage center for spent nuclear fuel near the Chernobyl plant, sparking a fire that was extinguished within an hour. The International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi called the incident “deeply concerning.”

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian attack in Russia’s Kursk region killed one man and injured a woman.

The meeting of Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz comes after a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Saint Petersburg, underscoring Kyiv’s growing ability to hit deep inside Russia. Russian officials reported three minor injuries from the attack earlier in the week.

With the front line barely moving due to swarms of drones hindering advances, both sides have sought an edge by launching long-range strikes. The war following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is over four years old and shows no signs of ending.
