On Friday, Turkiye’s infotech regulator announced a block on Instagram, making the platform and its mobile app inaccessible. The reason for the ban has not been specified, nor has a duration been provided.
The block follows Turkish communications official Fahrettin Altun’s criticism of Instagram for removing condolence posts related to the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a senior Hamas official. Altun denounced the action as “censorship” and noted that Instagram did not cite any policy violations for the block.
There has been no immediate response from Meta Platforms Inc, Instagram’s parent company, regarding the ban or Altun’s remarks.
