US Weapons Left Behind in Afghanistan Now Threatening Neighboring Countries

Advanced weapons left behind during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan are now being used by militants to carry out attacks in Pakistan, according to CNN.

Former U.S. official John Sopko confirmed that around 300,000 American weapons were left behind in Afghanistan and have become a serious threat to neighboring countries. The report reveals that banned militant groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) are now using advanced U.S.-made rifles, machine guns, and sniper weapons.

Experts say the availability of these arms has made attacks more deadly and complex, posing significant challenges for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. CNN reported that Pakistani security forces showcased weapons recovered from terrorists, all bearing U.S. markings. These same weapons were reportedly used in attacks in South Waziristan and Balochistan.

“Experts warn that the spread of US-made weapons and night-vision equipment is giving terrorist groups greater firepower and operational ability, raising serious security concerns along Pakistan’s border regions.”

The report also highlights that weapons left behind by U.S. forces have become a significant security threat in Pakistan’s border areas.
