WhatsApp to allow file sharing without internet

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is reportedly experimenting with a new feature that allows users to share files such as photos and videos with nearby users without an internet connection.

Additionally, the platform is working on introducing an in-app dialer for users, offering further functionality within the app.

The file-sharing feature, which enables users to share photos, videos, documents, and more with nearby WhatsApp users, is currently being tested in the beta version of the platform.

Meanwhile, Meta has not yet commenced testing the in-app dialer in beta releases, as it is reportedly only available in the early version of the app.

According to WABetaInfo, users must be in close proximity to other WhatsApp users for the new file-sharing feature to function. The sharing occurs via a locally-created network after users find each other.

Meta has also included an option for users to revoke these permissions at any time, enhancing user control and privacy.

Furthermore, WhatsApp has bolstered security by implementing end-to-end encryption for file sharing, similar to its messaging feature.

In recent developments, Meta introduced its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, to its social media platforms WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the decision on April 18, stating that Meta AI can answer queries, create animations, and generate images, positioning it as one of the most advanced AI assistants available for free use.

Moreover, WhatsApp recently unveiled a new custom sticker creation option on iOS, enabling users to create personalized stickers using images from their camera roll. This feature allows users to edit elements from photos to craft unique visual combinations, providing a more engaging messaging experience.
