Putin Poised for Another Six-Year Term 

The latest election results indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin is on the brink of securing another six-year term in office.

According to an exit poll on late Sunday, Putin has reportedly captured approximately 87 percent of the vote, maintaining a commanding lead over his nearest competitor, who garnered only around 4.7 percent of the vote, as reported by the Russian government-operated media agency Sputnik.

With the closure of ballots late Sunday at 8 p.m. Moscow time, marking the conclusion of the country’s first-ever three-day election, Putin’s victory seems all but certain. If confirmed, this will mark his fifth term in office, solidifying his position as the longest-serving Russian leader since dictator Josef Stalin.

Putin’s victory extends his tenure until at least 2030, thanks to new laws he pushed through in 2020 allowing for six-term limits. This means that, at 71 years old, Putin could potentially rule until 2036, till the age of 83, further consolidating his power.
