Renowned Scholar Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto Dies at 75

Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto, a distinguished author, analyst, historian, and former dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, breathed her last at the age of 75 in Jamshoro on Wednesday after battling a prolonged illness.

Following funeral prayers held at the Sindh University Employees Cooperative Housing Society in Jamshoro, Dr. Bhutto was laid to rest in the graveyard adjacent to the university workshop.

A multitude of mourners from various walks of life, including faculty members, officers, and employees of the University of Sindh, paid their final respects at her burial. The “Soyem” ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday in Jamshoro.

Born on March 15, 1948, in Shikarpur, Sindh, Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto pursued her education in the same region up to college level.

Notable achievements in her illustrious career include supervising a national Islamic conference at Sindh University in 2002 and receiving recognition from the university administration as the best teacher, honored with a gold medal.

Mukhdoom Saeed ul Zaman “Aatif,” Chairman of the Sindhi Adabi Board, expressed profound sorrow and lamented the loss of Professor Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto. In his condolence message, he highlighted Dr. Bhutto’s invaluable contributions to Sindhi language and literature during her tenure as a member of the Board of Governors of the Sindh Adabi Board.

He particularly lauded her seminal work “Sindh Ji Siyasi Tareekh” (Political History of Sindh), emphasizing its significant impact on research in the field. He concluded with prayers for the elevation of her esteemed ranks.
