The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a 10% withholding tax on wedding events, with wedding hall owners set to collect the levy on upcoming bookings.
An agreement to implement the tax was reached during a meeting between FBR officials and the Wedding Halls Association. “A percentage of withholding tax will also be applied to the booking of any event in wedding halls,” said Rana Raees, the association’s president.
The move is part of the FBR’s efforts to address a substantial revenue shortfall. In November 2024, the authority collected Rs855 billion, falling Rs149 billion short of its Rs1,003 billion target.
The tax on weddings is seen as a measure to enhance collections in a sector that has historically evaded strict taxation. The Wedding Halls Association has committed to ensuring compliance with the new directives.
