Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) named Hafiz Naeemur Rehman as their new emir, marking the 19th election for the esteemed position. Rehman’s election comes amidst a period of transition for the party, following the resignation of former emir Siraj-ul-Haq earlier this year.

Rehman secured the majority vote, setting the course for his tenure from 2024 to 2029. The election witnessed a 82% turnout of party workers.

Siraj-ul-Haq’s departure from the emir role in February followed the JI’s electoral setbacks, notably failing to secure any seats in the National Assembly and achieving only two seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly. Haq, who had led the party for a decade, took over from Syed Munawar Hassan in 2014 after winning the majority vote at the JI Headquarters Mansoora.

Haq’s decade-long leadership, marked by his reelection in 2019, saw notable contributions to the JI’s trajectory. However, after ten years of service, Haq made the decision to step down, paving the way for a new chapter under Rehman’s leadership.
