Interior Ministry Warns of Potential Terrorist Attack on Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi

The Interior Ministry has alerted the Sindh High Court to intelligence reports suggesting a looming terrorist attack on Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, highlighting Rawalpindi as the initial target of the assailants.

The ministry disclosed this information in a report submitted to the court concerning security measures for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan, who is incarcerated in Adiala Jail. The report, presented on Thursday, underscored the gravity of the situation, pointing out that military installations in Rawalpindi, along with prominent personalities, are also on the terrorists’ radar.

Attributing the planned terrorism to hostile foreign agencies and banned groups, the ministry alleged that anti-Pakistan elements aim to sow political chaos and disorder within the country.

The Sindh High Court, taking cognizance of the threat, directed authorities to enhance security arrangements for Imran Khan and other inmates at Adiala Jail. The court stressed the necessity for continuous security evaluations and instructed authorities to bolster security both within and outside the facility as deemed necessary.

While disposing of the petition regarding security concerns for the PTI founder, the court advised the petitioner to seek recourse through appropriate channels for further security issues. “Given the cross-border nature of the threats, they must be taken seriously,” remarked the chief justice, urging vigilance from the concerned agencies.

The chief justice reiterated the responsibility of the federal government to address external threats, emphasizing that the severity of the situation warranted immediate attention and action. The court had sought a comprehensive report from the government to address the looming security risks.
