Islamabad: 26 January 2026 — President Asif Ali Zardari approved seven bills passed by Parliament during a joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate. The legislation encompasses amendments to the National Tariff Commission, Export Development Fund, Transfer of Railways, Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection), Daanish Schools Authority, Income Tax, and the National Commission for Human Rights.

The approval process was contentious as the president raised objections on two bills—namely the Daanish Schools Authority Bill and the Domestic Violence Bill. Zardari’s concerns over the necessity of federal-provincial consultations on the Daanish Schools authority bill were met with opposition from lawmakers, who insisted that his advice should not be disregarded.

Regarding the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill, President Zardari expressed reservations, describing it as “vague.” He suggested reconsideration due to concerns over potential overly harsh punishments outlined in the legislation. Senator Kamran Murtaza of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl read out the president’s advice during the session, emphasizing that his objections were being ignored.

In total, seven bills have now been ratified and are set to become law. The approval process for these measures covers a range of topics including trade, taxation, social protection, education, railways, and human rights.
